Integrating Handwritten Signatures into electronic processes is becoming increasingly popular - since they offer a familiar and trustworthy proof of authenticity. E-Signing with the handwritten signature is self-explaining in contradiction to other solutions based on passwords or biometrics of the body - e.g. finger prints or face recognition. While electronic signing using handwritten signatures may still be pretty new to some it is the most natural way to declare an intent in the digital world. SignWare® is a Software Development Kit (SDK) for trustworthy capturing of handwritten signatures and optional verification. You are receiving a universal tool which allows you to integrate signatures of your users in electronic end-to-end processes.
- For every signer a unique reference data set may be created in SignWare. This reference data set contains characteristics of the static image of the signature together with invisible dynamic (biometric) signals of the writing movement - such as speed and pressure. Among the record data are location (x and y), different pressure levels (z) and time signals (t).
- The quality of the reference data set is assessed during the enrolment. The desired quality of the reference data may be adjusted corresponding to the selected capturing device, the capturing situation (environmental influences such as different positions for signing) as well as the desired security level.
- Storage of reference data can happen as encrypted raw data or as a template which may be optimized according to the storage capacity of a storage device (e.g. smaller template for storage on a smart card).
- Data of captured signature from the current process may be verified against the reference data set. The acceptance level for signature verification may be adjusted according to individual application scenarios.
Automatic Verification solves Needle in the Haystack Burden
SignWare provides instruments for automatic signature verification. They work as a highly valuable filter, so that internal or external experts can concentrate on suspicious signatures only. Using SignWare detecting fraudulent signatures is no longer like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Move away from Paper Step-by-step
In many use cases paper applications are phased out gradually and processes are migrated to an electronic workflow step-by-step. For a certain time the application environment has to deal with a "hybrid" combination of signatures captured on paper and those already being part of the electronic processes. SignWare is designed to cater for these hybrid environments: It is possible to follow a two phase approach with signature verification: As a start you will be able to compare the static image characteristics and in a second step the biometric data. Most financial institutions among SOFTPROs customers choose this step-by-step approach. Parts of the verification process are successfully in production since the mid-90's and have been improved ever since.
